Poem 6

The Awaiting Voice: By Lene Ododomu

                         The Poem
I disbelieved the rumour
The rumour that says,
that the retired parish priest has joined the eru worshipers.
The parish priest that almost died in the cold hot bloody hands of the eru worshipers.

I remember how he was sav'd by God and the church
when these people persecuted him.
I remember how he was mock'd by these people,
that his administration was Nigeria's problem.
Then they protested with the name of CHANGE and retired him.
So what is so special in these people
that made him to join them?
Even though he is coming back again,
not with the name of eru,
but the name of God....the creator.

He was honored for being a faithful servant to God after his retirement.
And the whole world prais'd him for that.
He was made the ambassador of peace
And the trees  danc'd to praise him
Then the sky and the moon testified the benefit of his administration to Nigeria.

It's only a sign I see
But I have not seen the rain touches the ground
It's only a sound of the rain I hear
But I have not heard him pathering on the roof.

Until the night fade before I will believe
that I was sleeping with a ghost.
Until the moon fade before I will know
that the world is off for a new month.
Until the sun fade before I will be sacr'd of night duwe.
I will not believe
until I hear the sound of the thunder.
I will not believe
until I see for myself.

So let me hear directly from the priest.
Let him say by himself
that he has joined the eru worshipers.
I will wait like a dog
that is waiting for the wasted bone from his master.
Once I hear his voice,
then I will believe.
